You Have Gym Equipment In Your Home

Membership of a professional gym is expensive. If you want to lose weight and get your money’s worth, you will need to go at least 3 times a week. For most of us, the enthusiasm and dedication soon wears off, and we end up wasting the money, locked into a year-long contract. Before you spend the money on gym membership, take a look around - you have gym equipment in your home too.

Chair or Exercise Machine?

Find a straight chair in your home. A dining room chair will probably work. Place it in the middle of the room where nothing is blocking you. Sit straight on the chair and lift your right leg straight out in front of you. Do this ten times. Now switch to your left leg. If ten times is too much, only do five and build your way up to ten. If ten is easy, try twenty. Do this every day.

These Weights are Really Free

To develop the muscles in your arms, you can use your body weight instead of buying expensive dumbbells. Traditional push-ups on the floor may be a bit strenuous at first, so try this variation instead. Face the back of your sofa, standing about arms-length away. Leaning forward, place your hands shoulder-width apart on the back of the sofa, not on the cushions. Now bend your arms until your chest touches the top of the sofa. Straighten your arms until you are in a pivot position again. Repeat this five times every day. Once it starts to feel easy, you can move back to the old-fashioned push ups on the floor.

Since you are already lying on the floor doing your push-ups, roll onto your side and do some leg lifts. Make sure you have enough room so that you don’t kick grandma’s vase off the table, or hurt yourself in the process.

Use the Stairs or Take a Walk

Walking is an excellent way to exercise, as it works your entire body. A walk after work will help relieve the day’s stress too. Try taking a walk after work to take away the woes of the day.

If you live or work in a building that has an elevator, most people will hop in the box rather than climbing the stairs. But taking the stairs a couple of times a day will help build your muscles and your heart. The exercise can also invigorate you after that post-lunch lethargy.

Gardening is Great Exercise

Gardens need a lot of attention, and the bending down, pushing and pulling and other movements that go into weeding, mowing lawns and trimming bushes will give you a full body workout. Spend a couple of hours in the garden each week and you’ll not only see the results in your garden, but on your body as well.
